Family Photo Shoot

Okay, so my mum got a voucher from her Gym to participate in a high end photo shoot with the fam.20150706_145956

We were all incredibly hesitant at first, since we didn’t want to become “that family…”

You know the Anglo-Saxon kind with the  perfectly colour co-ordinated family photo’s framed, all located only an inch and a half a apart, each raised two inches more than the next until they’re beautifully symmetrical and diagonal.

Anyway, I’ve always been very hesitant when it comes letting others do my makeup… I don’t know whether many other people have this problem, but it may have something to do with the time my friend poked me in the eye with an eyeliner pen, making my eye red and black for like 5 hours… or maybe not, who knows.

Anyway, a gorgeous makeup artist did a fabulous job on my face, she told me that she used to work at Mac and got her training from several different companies.  I’ll be honest, she was a little more heavy handed on the cheeks and shimmer.  However, it was really interesting to see what a professional would make out of my face.  She used some shimmery shadows above the crease, which is something that I tend to avoid, as well as using heavy shimmery all over my cheekbones rather than the just the tops of my cheekbones.  Even though it was something that I would never think to do, it actually looked really pretty, although I do prefer a less “made up” look.

I’m not 100% sure of everything she used, but this is everything I remember.

My new job

I recently started working at Dangerfield and it’s amazing (for all of my international friends, Dangerfield is an Australian high-end fashion label). 1435188132241

I don’t have much time to get ready in the morning because the only bus that gets me to work on time comes super early(at least for me), due to this, I often result to an incredibly minimal makeup.

This usually consists of the products that I know will make me the least oily, since I often don’t get a break or a chance to touch up.

Everyday makeup

I don’t really like wearing enjoy wearing a lot of makeup during the day, especially when i’m just going to uni or just running errands.  So what I’ve been doing lately, is mixing my foundation(Revlon colourstay whipped) with my moisturiser(Dermalogica c1431830383938lear start oil free), creating a much sheerer formula.  I’ll use a little concealer underneath my eyes(Maybelline Fit me) to hide some discolouration. I’ll then put on a little bit of cream blush (usually Boho Chic by NYX) and a cream highlighter(Benefit High Beam) on my cheekbones, cupids bow and the bridge of my nose.  Lastly, I comb through my brows with my Ardell clear brow gel and put on a little mascara(L’oreal telescopic waterproof).

Even though you can still see my imperfections through my makeup, I still feel confident and put together, which I think is the main thing.  Always do whatever makes you feel the most confident, whether it’s wearing a heavy smokey eye and thick foundation during the day or no makeup at all.

Intense red smokey eye with no liner

Fun fact: I did my entire face makeup before my eye makeup (big oops), so when I’d almost 1431694361986finished my makeup, I accidentally drew a black line right down the centre of my cheek :/

Concealer 101

Okay, I’m going to say it.  Using a concealer 5 shades lighter than your skin tone isn’t going to make you look like Kim K!

Aside from that, concealer is a vital part of many people’s makeup routines, so let me share some of my biggest do’s and don’ts, as well as some of my favourite products 🙂

1. Buff it in with a brush: doing this will make the product cling to dry patches as well as not maintaining much coverage.

2. Use concealer more than 2 shades lighter than your skin tone on your blemishes or even under your eyes, it will just look far too light as well as highlighting imperfections.

3. Use more than necessary: always start with a thin layer, and just add more more where necessary.  Concealer is very high coverage, meaning that it is prone to caking up as well as creasing.

4. Use a concealer with the wrong undertone, such as a pink undertone when your skin is more yellowish.

1. Press your concealer in with your fingers, a beauty blender or a brush, the pressing motion will maintain the coverage as well as blending it out.

2. Colour correct, there’s no point caking  concealer onto dark circles and hoping for the best, it is best to correct the dark, purple undertones with a peachy toned corrector before putting concealer on over the top.

3. Set when necessary (if you’re going out clubbing or you’re staying out all day) with either a translucent powder or brightening powder).

4. Highlight with a shade a couple of shades lighter than your skin under your eyes, tops of the cheekbones, the chin, cupids bow, the bridge of the nose, and even underneath your cheek contour. Make sure to use a concealer that isn’t too full coverage, ensuring that it doesn’t look cakey or fake.

My favourite concealers(in no particular order)

Rimmel Wake Me Up: it has light reflecting particles, which truly makes you look brighter and more awake. It’s also not too full coverage, which makes it perfect for everyday wear.

– Maybelline Fit Me: This is an awesome dupe for the Nars Creamy concealer, its quite full coverage but still great for everyday wear.  It really covers under eye circles so this is my go to concealer.

– L.A Girl pro: this is quite a full coverage concealer, very similar to the Mac pro longwear, I like this for hiding dark circles before I highlight, because it has a slightly pinky undertone.

Autumn inspired smokey eye

It’s been so cold in Melbourne recently, so I really wanted my eye makeup to reflect our beautiful autumn weather. I created a burgundy smokey eye, smoked out with warm toned browns (all Makeup Geek shadows), paired with some shimmer on the lid.

I may have over-indulged…

One thing you may  not know about me, is that I love food… like a lot.  I will spend hours researching burgers, fried chicken and udon, for no particular reason( I know, I’m super weird).  As m1430359310968uch as I love trying new places, there is truly nothing worse for me than being disappointed, fortunately, I didn’t have to add Top Paddock onto my list of disappointments.

Me and my high school friend recently took the trip out to Richmond to try Top Paddock, curious to see if it would live up to the hype.  We both ordered the blueberry hotcakes (with a side of bacon, I couldn’t not… get bacon… duh?), as well as a couple of soy latte’s.

They were bloody amazing, like wow, I feel like my whole life has been a lie because I haven’t been eating these everyday of my life(sorry, I’ll calm down).
